Manic Monday

As of 6:10 this morning, I started my vacation!!!!!  I am free for seven days!  I need it to, because work has been above and beyond stressful.  Wednesday is my 27th birthday, and Thursday, John and I head to NY for a long weekend with friends!!!

What’s your least favorite word?

There are a lot of words I don’t like.  Lazy, ignorant, swindle … all words that I don’t like.
Where do you go when you need really good advice?

I usually go to one of two places.  Tina, one of my dearest friends in NY, is the first person I turn to when I honestly can’t work something out on my own and need an extra brain to help me process something.  She’s often the most honest and down to earth person I know, and she is always straight up with me.  The second is my high school Sociology teacher, Stewart Belkin.  In many ways, he’s my Obi Wan, and he always has fruitful advice for me.

If you could participate in any winter Olympic sport, what would it be?

Hands down … curling.  My favorite!

Another Monday, another month quickly gone.  Is it really February already??

Manic Monday #199

What was your best day of the week last week and why?

Probably Friday night into Saturday.  My husband and I had some overdue ‘quality’ time together.

What’s the longest you’ve ever gone without sleep?

In high school I could stay up for 20+ hours at a time.  I loved doing it, but the more I try to re-create that today, the harder I crash.  So I try to sleep as much as I can when I can.

Is how old you look and/or how old you feel right now different from your actual age?

Many people think I look younger than my age (evident when I buy beer.)  I don’t know that I would say I feel older than my age.  I’m right where I want to be, and while I’ve always been more mature than most of my age-group peers, I think I’m about right.

If you could only have one section of the bookstore to visit, which section would it be?

Probably the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section.  I know, some of you are thinking, “What about the craft section?”  I understand.  But really, I can get patterns online, but there is nothing like the feel of a real book in my hands.

If you could only subscribe to one publication for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Spin Off.  I’ve just started reading this amazing magazine and I don’t know if I could live without it.  It is full of so much amazing information on spinning and fiber.

What activity always makes you lose track of time?

Spinning!  I know that I can put on the IPOD and go to town, and before I know it, three hours has flown by!

Manic Monday

I am so glad that this weekend was a good one at work.  Nice and easy is always a good thing, especially since I had a lot of extra to-dos.  We’re in our window for state inspection and we, as a nursing team on a skilled/sub-acute unit, pride ourselves in making sure that everything is tip-top.  So, I did extra cleaning, labeling of personal items, and just general cleaning of rooms.  I’ve had so much extra energy since I quit smoking that it didn’t feel as much of a burden as it did last year.

Growing up, what was your favorite sitcom?

I’d have to say that it would be a tie between Family Matters and Night Court.  Family Matters was always very funny and it was something that we watched as a family.  Dad, however, would let me stay up late and watch Night Court.  When I was little, I just thought Bull was a funny character.  Not until I got older did I get the Dan Fielding side of  it.

What’s your idea of a romantic date?

Seeing as I’m a married lady, I’ll have to say that my husband cooking me dinner, picking out a wine he knows I’ll love, and just relaxing together in bed later on is fantastic.

What are you most afraid to lose?

Losing myself.  I swear, if I woke up one day and found that I had lost my independence, creative spirit, and identity, you might as well just kill me then and there.

First one of the new year!

What did you get in trouble for the most when you were a kid?

Wow … let me try to remember.  Probably for talking back.  I was full of sass as a child.
Which is your wish that is not yet fulfilled?

I want a baby … to start a family.  Well, now that I’ve quit smoking, maybe it will happen.

If you have to choose a movie title for your life story, what would that be?

Hit Me With Your Best Shot … seriously.  I feel like I can take on anything. 🙂

Manic Monday

Ah, Monday.  It is back to work, after a very wonderful Christmas weekend.  How will I survive the grind? 🙂

Last night Emy was here for dinner!!!  Oh, how I miss my sister so much, since she lives in England.  I get to see her once a year, which is not enough for me, but I understand.  She’s going to graduate with her PhD this summer and I’m so excited for her!

In swap news … I sent out the matches for the Sole Food Swap last night, and I can’t wait to get started!  I’m going to have a great time getting things for my pal.  And if MY pal is lurking out there … there is a link on the side bar of the blog to my Q&A.

Were you considered popular in high school? Why or why not?

I don’t think I was popular.  I was well liked, sure … but not popular.  I was that weird kid, trying to find my niche into the hierarchy of high school.  Trying to battle depression and all of the darkness that comes with puberty.  But I can proudly say that I was a Band Geek, no one gave me that hard of a time, and I came out unscathed.

Did you have an enemy or bully when you were young?

Thankfully no.  I had my own demons (and still do today, but not as bad), but there was no one out there trying to make my life a living hell.  Even as a child, I didn’t take peoples’ shit – which is probably the reason I didn’t have a bully.

If you could go on a road trip with any person (dead or alive) who would you go with and where would you go?

I love these types of questions!  I would have to say Thomas Jefferson.  He’s one of my favorite historical figures, and to spend time in a car with him would be interesting.  I would love to talk and debate, pick his brain, and watch him marvel (and probably have distaste) for the modern world.

No mania today … I’m trying to relax.  I left most of the mania at work, where it needs to stay.  It should not follow me home. 🙂

If you could bring one character to life from your favorite book, who would it be?

Ooooo …. great question.  I’m going to have to go with Hrothbert of Bainbridge,  aka Bob, from The Dresden Files series.  He’s one of my favorite literary characters by far.  That, and Terrance Mann played him in the short-lived TV series. (SO yummy!)  Never mind the fact that Bob is the ghost of his former self, trapped forever in his skull because he did some terrible things with black magic.
Which cartoon character do you resemble the most?

Seeing as the cartoons I watch are on ‘Adult Swim’; picking from those shows, I’m going to go with Dr. Mrs. The Monarch (aka Dr. Girlfriend) from The Venture Brothers.  She’s sexy, doesn’t take anyones’ shit, and has a great taste for vintage-esq clothing.  My voice isn’t as deep as her’s though.

What vegetable do you most resemble?

Seriously?  I’m not even sure how to answer that one.  But if my job causes me to have anymore stress, I’m going to be a ‘vegetable’ real quick.
