Yarn … You Betcha!

I didn’t sleep well last night or today.  I finally managed to get some sleep around noon and slept till, oh, about 5pm.  I really hate days when I can’t sleep.

But on the flip side … I have yarn porn!!!

My KnitPicks order showed up yesterday!  I ordered three skeins of Palette so that I can start working on the Civil War socks.  Then, they had some Felici on sale, so I had to grab that up!

And here’s what I purchased last Friday while in Charlottesville.  Note … the blue isn’t for me.  My friend, Tim, is trying to enhance his yarn stash, and this stuff just called out his name from the bargain bin! I picked up a skein of Mountain Colors Mountain Goat in Moose Creek, as well as two skeins of one of my favorites – Noro Cash Iroha (in red!)

Remember me mentioning Chan’s taking me to the shop that carried all things cat?  Well here’s some cat action, with the cat nip toys that she bought for the kids.

Cooley got the carrot, and Mavy the cigar.

And lastly … my latest FO!

  • Project name : Goth Cables
  • Pattern : Evangeline by Michelle Szeghalmi
  • Yarn : Cascade 220, in black

I fell in love with this pattern the moment I saw it, and just had to have a pair.  It was very easy and a pleasure to knit, so I wouldn’t be suprised if I make more.  There is a long version and a short version, and mine are somewhere in the middle.

Manic Monday

Manic Monday #161

Do you enjoy brain teasers or do you find them frustrating?

I usually enjoy them – I don’t find them too hard.

Do you have any unusual collections?

I love to collect garden gnomes and all things gnome!  I have at least eight outside.

What do people notice about you within the first hour of meeting you (other than appearance)?

I come across as a very nice and helpful person, but with a ‘no bullshit’ attitude.  I think most people like me when I meet them (at least that’s how it seems.)

Weekend Gloom

It has stopped raining outside, but it’s still cloudy and cold.  Why do I always wake up to that when I have to go to work?  Days like this are meant for staying in bed!

Oy!  What a great Friday I had!  I drove down to Charlottesville to meet up with my knitting friend, Chan.  The drive down was great, not to mention more quick than I thought it would be.  It took me just under two hours to get there.

Once there, we ended up meeting each other at the same intersection to cross traffic.  We ventured first to a great little store that was all about cats.  They had items for cats, but mostly for cat lovers.  Chan was so nice – she picked up two cat nip toys for our critters, as well as some chocolate for me.

After that, we made our way to The Needle Lady!  What a great yarn store!  I loved the selection and I’m telling you … it will be tempting not to drive down there and buy more yarn on another day that I have off.  I’m hoping to post pictures of what I did buy later this week, once I have a little sunshine.

We had lunch at Miller’s.  What a great place.  It reminded me of my old hang out, Coley Harry’s, that closed a few years ago in Winchester.  Great food, wonderful conversation.

I wish we could have stayed a little longer, but Chan was on her lunch hour.  Just as well … I was trying to meet up with another friend of mine.  Sadly, that didn’t happen.  He’s moving into a new house, and not only spent the day doing that, he’s sick.  So I drove around Charlottesville, took in the scenery, and stopped into Barnes and Noble before heading home.

But I did have the most wonderful Friday!  Hopefully that joy will now carry me through my weekend at work!

Friday Fill-Ins

I just knew that if I went to bed early, I would wake up way to early.  Well, there are always those energy shot things!

Friday Fill-Ins #117

1. “In a hole in the ground there lived a beautiful bulb waiting to bloom.”

2. “I can be a real bitch sometimes but that ain’t no matter.”

3. “After dark the rain began to fall again, and I was happy that I was inside, curled up under a blanket.”

4. “I broke away from the hold of the Spanish galleon.”

5. “There was a hand in the darkness, and I reached out for it.”

6. “Accidents ambush the unsuspecting, which is why I lay in wait.”

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to going out to dinner with hubby after getting back from visiting Chan, tomorrow my plans include work and Sunday, I want to finish sewing, but I have to work!

Vintage Cravings

So, I’ve had some minor laptop issues … battery dead and all.  Thank goodness my hubby found a new one on Ebay!  So, we should be back to normal posting in no time!

Ah … clothing.  I’ve always been a chameleon when it comes to what I wear.  I dress depending on my mood.  I really want to try to bring one look out and make it my own, so I’m thinking of doing more with a 1950’s vintage look!  As my hair gets longer, I find that I can do more *note to self – get new hot rollers!*  I love the clothes, the shoes … the whole fashion!  And I even found a great chic on Etsy who makes crinoline slips!

It’s really, for me, about being more feminine, and not letting myself go.  I love to wear dresses and heels … put on pretty make up and do my hair.  And, when you wear scrubs 50% of the time and come home smelling like some kind of bodily fluid, it’s more incentive to be pretty!

So, as my sewing skills enhance, I find myself scouring Ebay for vintage patterns, debating on what dress to make, things like that.

Now, I’ve got to head to bed; I’m driving a couple hours to visit a friend in Charlottesville tomorrow!  Chan and I are going to visit and yarn store and get lunch.  And then, hopefully, I’ll get a chance to catch up with another friend over some coffee, if he’s not to busy moving into his new house!

Knitting pictures should happen next week, along with a little sewing progress!

Manic Monday

Arg … Monday.  I’m crossing my fingers and toes that tonight will be a good night at work.  And tomorrow night, Tuesday … it would be nice if it was a good one too.

Manic Monday #160

Do you screen your phone calls?

On the house phone, yes … we don’t have caller ID and it’s usually someone wanting to sell me something I don’t need.  On my cell phone … no.  Well, at least 90% of the time I don’t.

When was the last time you lost your temper?

That’s a hard one, as I usually don’t lose my temper very easily.  There have been a few times at work where I have come close, but all were near misses.

When you’re lost, do you ask for directions?

Yes.  But while I’m good at getting myself lost, I’m even better in finding my way back, especially in a new town/city.

St. Patty’s Day!

Oh, this year we had a great St. Patrick’s Day feast!  Green beer, corned beef and cabbage, family and good friends!

I had a great video – but I can’t get it to load.  Thankfully Karen and I took some good pictures

Green Beer!

So as you can see, we had a great feast!  I also noticed there are no pictures of my hubby.  Well, there is always next year.
