What is your favorite way to keep warm when it’s snowing outside? (And if you live in a warm weather climate, what would you do to stay warm and cozy while it’s snowing?)

Um … not going outside if I can help it! LOL  I usually put some sweats on and curl up on the couch with a cup of hot tea, a blanket, and a good movie.  Of course, I keep the thermostat at 70 degrees F in the winter.  I really hate to be cold, and since I feel cold all the time … well, gotta crank the heat!

FOs For Friday!

I just finished up a couple of really cute hats for my co-worker’s (Misty) kids.  I delivered them yesterday so that I could get some pictures.

  • Project : Big Green Hat
  • Knitted For : Gauge
  • Pattern: Big Funky Hat by Laurie Lee
  • Yarn : Cascade 220 Heathers

I think this one came out really great.  He put it on and said it was like the hat in Harry Potter (Prisoner of Azkhaban – when Harry has on his invisibility cloak, and sneaks up on Draco and his cronies while they are picking on Ron and Herminoe.  Safe to say, this kid was impressed that I knew that!)

Next up, we’ve got a cutie!

  • Project: Ponytail Jr.
  • Knitted for: Dawn
  • Pattern: Hannah by Blake Ehrlich
  • Yarn : Cascade Pastaza

She really loved her hat.  What you can’t see are the bright yellow buttons I used.  She put the hat on, then put it on her plush cat.  Like I said … totally cute.

I was about to finish Zodiac, when I just became disgusted.  I was not happy with the straps at the top.  Not to mention I put the button placket on the wrong side.  So, using my sewing skills, I’m going to make a top part for it out of some cute cotton fabric and see what we get.  But for now, I’ve put it aside.

My big dilemma now is … what to knit next???  I really need another pair of fingerless gloves, as mine need to be washed badly.  I also want to get John’s socks started, but I know I’ll be starting my February sock club socks soon.  I also need to get some work done on my sweater too.  I think I’ll work on the sweater tonight though, while watching my current movie obsession … PLANET OF THE APES!!!!

FX movie channel had all five movies on the other night (Planet of the Apes, Beneath Planet of the Apes, Escape From Planet of the Apes, Conquest of The Planet of the Apes, and Battle For the Planet of the Apes.)  Good stuff, I’m telling you.  I Netflixed the newer version of Planet of the Apes (with Mark Wahlberg, from 2001), and may watch that tonight while I work on my sweater.

And now … I leave you with my Friday Fill In.  Have a great weekend, everyone!

Friday Fill-In #109

1. I’d really like to take a long nap right now.

2. Son of a bitch! is the word you’d most often hear me say if I stubbed my toe.

3. Possession is a form of weakness, when taken to the extreme.

4. My nurse, Jan, has a thing for Captain Jack Sparrow.

5. Marshmallows and fire go together like bees and honey.

6. The beat goes on, and on and on.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to having a few beers and watching a movie with my husband, tomorrow my plans include working and Sunday, I want to go to a local beer tasting, but I have to work!

Oy!  Today there was a package waiting for me when I woke up!  It was my first package from my Warm Ewe Up swap pal!

There are two really nice copies of some sock patterns that are in my Ravelry queue, a skein of Paca-Peds sock yarn in ‘Carribean Chocolate’, a skein of Sandy’s Palette Merino Sox in a pretty blue variegation, and a box of the most amazing chocolate I’ve ever had!  I already dived into the chocolate goodness!

Thank you so much, pal.  The yarns are in colors that I would not have chosen for myself, but believe me – I LOVE them!  That is one of my favorite things about swaps; the colors of yarn my pals send me is usually different from what I would chose … which broadens my horizons!

What gives you hope?

Turning on the tv, seeing over a million people gathered in Washington DC, all smiling and gathered together.  A see of color and religion – all together in one place for one common goal.

How often do you get your haircut? Describe your worst haircut.

Since I’m growing it out for Civil War reenactment, hardly ever right now.  And as far as the worst hair cut?   Wow – I really can’t think of one.

What’s your most treasured piece of jewelry? Why?

My engagement ring.  The fact that my husband picked it out all on his own … and it’s my birthstone, not a diamond … it means a lot to me.

Oh what a great day today was!  The inauguration of Barack Obama !!!!  I was in tears for part of the swearing in today, and laughing at other times.  I am just so happy that we have a new face to the government, with good ideas and strong direction.  The new first lady is elegant, intelligent, and an amazing role model to women everywhere.  What really swept me away today was the benediction delivered by Rev. Lowery.  I was in tears, truly, by the end of it, as was my mother.

That little ditty from the 60’s is still true today.  I think people of my generation need to remember the struggle of the people who came before us.  It wasn’t even fifty years ago when segregation was still the infection that poisoned our nation.  It’s still there … maybe not in the same ways as during the Civil Rights movement, but it’s still there.  We need to move as a people, to remember that it doesn’t matter what color your skin is, what god you worship, or who your lover is.  A person is a person … it’s as simple as that.

Now, I’ll step down from my soapbox for a minute to share an FO with you.

I finished my January edition of my Personal Sock Club socks today.  The yarn was a gift from my Fall Yarn Swap spoiler, and I loved it when I got it.  It’s very Halloween in color, but I love it.

  • Project : Spooky Spiral Socks
  • Pattern: Spiral Eyelet Socks by Sandi Rosner
  • Yarn : Sharing BFL sock yarn in “Witches Brew”, and Knit Picks Essential Sock in black

I really love these socks!  The pattern was so easy and fun to knit, and I’ll be already for Halloween this year!

Snow!

Ah – today was the first real snow of the season.  I’m not a huge fan of winter weather, but it was really pretty outside today.  My poor gnomes are buried under everything.  This was also Cooley’s first time seeing snow, and he sat in front of the living room windows watching it most of the day.

Speaking of Cooley … he’s up to his crazy tricks again.  Recently we have learned that he likes to climb.  John took this Saturday … Cooley is on the shelf on top of the cabinet over the fridge.  Sorry about the demon eyes – I think the flash was on.

I think he just likes heights.  We try to keep him of the counter tops, but he keeps getting up there.  He doesn’t really get into anything … he just likes to sit up high I suppose.  And here he is watching the snow fall.

I was going through my old digital camera the other night, and I found a couple of great photos.  Here’s one of Arwin, all curled up on my Mom’s robe.  I’m not sure which cat that is behind her (either Jericho or Boris.)

And here’s a great one of John.  I LOVE that expression on his face!

Oy – I think I’m going to go to bed for a little bit.  I want to get my errands done before the Inauguration comes on tv!  And if you missed the free concert Sunday in DC – it’s on HBO.  A great display of music and speakers.

Have a great day!

Manic Monday

This weekend was good.  Being at work was good for me, emotionally.  I’m feeling much better today.

Manic Monday #151

What do you do to make yourself feel better when you are sick?

I stay in bed and sleep.  I like to be left alone.  I also seem to drink endless amounts of chicken broth and ginger ale.
What is the most amazing weather you’ve ever seen?

When I was a kid, my parents and I went to Virginia Beach, but we had to leave early due to Hurricane Hugo.  I remember that we went down to the beach one last time before we left.  The sky over the sea – it was like it was alive!  The wind was blowing so hard, my Dad was literally holding me down as I pulled a huge Cong(sp) shell from the sand.
Do you listen to music or talk radio in the car?

Music, always.  I’m not a fan of talk radio at all.
