Jumpin’ Jesus on a pogo stick!  I had TWO swap packages arrive today, in addition to my recent Knit Picks order.

I’ll start with Knit Picks.  I finally got my butt in gear and ordered some blocking wires.  And of course, with the $50/free shipping, I just had to get some other stuff.  I purchased a color card for their Essential sock yarn, something for my Fall Yarn swap pal, and a little something for myself.

I purchased a copy of Victorian Lace Today and two skeins of Alpaca Cloud lace yarn.  This book has been on my list of must haves for awhile, and since it was on sale, I decided to pick up a copy.  The lace bug has bitten me as of late, but I’m trying to alternate between lace and socks.

Next up I have my first package from my Falling For Ewe Yarn Swap on Ravelry.  Wow … what an amazing package!!!

She sent me two knit hats for Warm Up Winchester that she made (how cool is that!), the book Daughter of Fortune (great novel – I’ve read it but have wanted my own copy,) caramel Hershey kisses, a small Yankee Candle in Autumn Wreath (smells great!), some room/linen spray (smells great, and with a cat – well … you can never have enough – plus it smell like autumn,) and TWO skeins of Manos del Uruguay Manos Silk.  I’ve never knit with this, but have eyed it many times!  Thank you so much pal!!!!!  I love everything!

Finally, I received my final package from Donna, my Summer of Yarn Love swap partner.  We were going to meet up when I was in Atlantic City, but her husband had some health issues (and you don’t have to tell me twice, that’s for sure!  I totally understand.)

Donna … you really out did yourself!  Thank you SO very much!  There are THREE skeins of Ultra Alpaca Light, a copy of “Lace Style”, two packets of Soak (you can never have too many!), a skein of NH Knitting Mama sock yarn (special dyed for me, Donna says, to replace my chocolate mishap), a bag of cherry cordial Hershey Kisses (SO good!), and TWO skeins of Malabrigo.

Oh … and here’s a close up of the card!  This is fantastic!

To both ladies … thank you so very much for all of the goodies!!!!

Donna – thank you again!  I’ve really enjoyed getting to know you, and making a new friend!

Manic Monday

Manic Monday #136

What is the most useful gift you’ve ever been given?

The ability to be nice to people who are ignorant, arrogant, and just plain mean and stupid.  I don’t know if I got this from family or God, but it’s the best gift I’ve ever been given.

Name the most terrifying moment of your life so far.

Probably my first car accident.  I was 16 and rear ended a teacher on my way to school.  No one was hurt, but I was horrified!

One hot summer afternoon, while walking through a parking lot at a large shopping center

If I wouldn’t get charged for breaking and entering, I’d break the car window and get the dog to safety.  I would call 911 ASAP, and see if the car was unlocked.  I run to the nearest store to get help.  Man… people who leave animals and children in this situation really rank high on my shit list.

While I’m playing catch up …

Friday Fill-In # 91

1. Pulling out my winter clothes, drinking more hot tea, and Halloween are some of the things I’m most looking forward to in October.

2. Sometimes I just want to scream as loud as I can into my pillow.

3. I never thought that I would find and marry such a wonderful man,  and that’s why there is a saying, “never say never”!

4. When I’m down, I sleep a lot and eat the worst things (tons of sugar!).

5. In my living room or on the back porch is where you’ll find me most often.

6. A rainy day is good for curling up under the covers and reading a good book.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to unpacking (which I did most of), tomorrow my plans include going back to work and Sunday, I want to knit and relax, but I need to go to work!

Falling For Ewe Yarn Swap Question of the Week

What meals or ‘foods’ mean Fall to you?

Ooo … that would be my Grandmother’s homemade Veggie soup.  But seeing as she passed away a few years back and I can’t get it anymore … I love to find new things to make.  But mostly stews and soup chime in Fall for me.

I’m Baaaack!

That’s right kids … I’m back from my Honeymoon.  John and I had an amazing time, and while we didn’t want to leave, it’s good to get home and back to the routine.  That, and we had a certain Orange Tabby that missed us like mad!

I plan on posting some great pictures this week.  I do have to work this weekend, so I won’t have a lot of time to sit down at my laptop.  But I do plan on doing a big post so everyone can see!

One thing I love about vacation is that it gives me time to sit back and reflect upon my ‘real’ life.  I’ve been thinking a lot about my eating and personal habits lately.  They are not healthy in the least bit.  I mean, the last night I worked I stepped on the scale … I was disgusted.  I mean – it could be worse, that is for sure, but I was not happy with it.  I think, at this point, I’d like to lose about 40 pounds.  Yes … that’s a lot … I know.  And then part of me says, it’s not about the numbers on the scale, it’s about how I feel.  But then I think back to how much I weighed …. ugh!  So, here’s a few things that I want to work on/try out.

  • Go to they gym.  I have a membership now … I just need to get my ass moving.  I want to start by doing at least 30 mins on the treadmill on my days off, and work my way up.
  • Pay attention to what I’m eating.  It seems that, every time I turn around, I feel like I have to eat something.  When I’m at work, I’m always snacking.  When I’m home on a night off, I’m always snacking.  So … if I feel the need to eat so much so often, I need to start packing snacks and having more healthy things to eat in the house.  I love sugar and lots of it … and I know it’s a problem.
  • Cook more.  Make more meals that I can freeze or make ahead.  Oh … and learn to love left overs!
  • Just being more aware of what I’m putting in my body and what I’m doing to balance things out.  I’m not saying I plan on cutting all the yummy (but bad) things out … I just need to severely limit them.

So .. tonight while I’m at work, I plan on making up a plan with meals, menus, and snacks.  I have a few books that I can work with and not have to use the Internet, which is good while I’m at work – as I have no Internet.  I need to go to the grocery store this week … so maybe this weekend I won’t have the good stuff to eat, but I’m off Monday and Tuesday.

Greetings From New Jersey!

Right now John and I are taking a little rest in our room at the B&B we’re staying at, so I thought I share a quick post.

First of all … the wedding was wonderful!  Everything went off without a snag, the ceremony was amazing, and everyone (including us!) had a great time.  Sunday morning we went to my parents’ house for breakfast and to open gifts.  I have to tell you … we made out like bandits, in both money and stuff.  But the money is going into the house, as we really want to get a new mattress for the spare bedroom, maybe a nicer desk in the craft room, and things like that.  After all of that, we headed up to Atlantic City!

Last night we just relaxed, had some beer, and explored a bit of the Boardwalk.  We had dinner at Phillip’s at the Pier Shops, which was amazing btw, and then headed back to the B&B’s pub for a couple of beers.

Today we walked quite a bit!  We walked down to the old Steel Pier and back.  We gambled at Bally’s and did okay.  I mean, I’m not calling work to tell them to kiss my ass or anything, but we didn’t loose a lot, and that’s what counts.  Then we hit the shops at the Pier, mostly to case out what they had so I can go back when John goes to play golf later this week.  We did go into Lush, and now I think I’ve turned my DH onto their amazing bath and body products.

So … more to come later this week.  I’m going to have a ton of photos, so I’ll probably set up a Flickr page, but I’ll be sure to post a few here.  Also, my Mom is getting out wedding photos developed while we’re gone, so I’ll have some of those to show next week!

3 Days to Go!

Or, as my Dad says, 3 days and a wake-up!  I can’t believe the wedding is getting SO close!!!!  I’m super excited, not nervous, and so anxious!!!

Oh … this post is a little long, so bear with me.  This is the first chance I’ve really had this week to sit down and blog properly.

Today was a good day.  John and I went to the courthouse to get our marriage certificate.  I was really surprised in how fast it took us to get everything done.  After that we met with Casey, our photographer, to go over the run down for photos the day of the wedding.  I’ve contacted all of my vendors and double checked things with them.  At this point, I think I’m good on what I need to do.

Emy came over this evening and we drove down to The FiberSmyth in Woodstock!  I spent way too much money, but really, part of it wasn’t even for me.

I splurged and bought two skeins of Malabrigo lace (I’ve been eyeing that for a LONG time!), as well as three skeins of Baby Blatt in a dark purple (it was 50% off), and a skein of Jasper that I’ve been eyeing for a while as well.  I also picked up some things for my pal’s next Fall Yarn Swap package, as well as a gift for my wedding photographer (who also knits!)

Em and I then headed over to TGIFridays for dinner.  I’ve been craving their Jack Daniel’s Flat Iron steak like it’s going out of style!  After dinner we went for Knitting Night at Never Enough Yarn!  The gals there …. wonderful people!  They caught me off guard with a little surprise party!  Homemade cupcakes, sparkling cider, and of course, awesome goodies!

There is a thong from Victoria Secrets, a beautiful wedding photo frame, hand spun yarn that Malia made, and a garter with matching pasties!!!  Yes … pasties!  Complete with tassels!!

Thank you so much ladies!  It was totally awesome and I had a great time!

And now … knitting!!!!

I finished Dad’s Christmas present!  I just need to weave in the ends.

  • Pattern: One Row Scarf by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee
  • Yarn : Malabrigo worsted

This was a great easy project!  Not too dull, with enough to keep your interest.

And speaking of the One Row Scarf, I’ve started another for John!  Now, it looks small in the photo, but that’s only because of the way I took the picture.

I wanted to start an easy project to take with me on the honeymoon, but I have a feeling I could get this finished while we’re away, so I’ll have to find something else to take with me too!

The Purple Lace Scarf is making good progress.  I’m about 10-15 inches shy of where I want it to be in length for pre-blocking.  This one may come on the honeymoon too, but I’m not sure.  I need to get it finished by October 1st, as it’s a birthday present for one of my co-workers.  It looks a little bunched up in the photo, but I wanted to fit it all in!

I’ve also started the Swallowtail Shawl, in fingering weight.  This is going to be a birthday present for another co-worker, but I don’t want to say who, in case she actually does read my blog.  Now, this photo, in my opinion, is a little crappy and doesn’t show the true color of the yarn.  It was also hard to get it to spread out with just me taking the photo, so I’ll see if I can’t get another shot up soon.  THIS is the yarn btw, so you can see the amazing colors.

So, yes … I’ve been a busy monkey.  Knitting, on top of running a swap, on top of getting ready to get married.  I just can’t sit down and relax …. which I need to do, and plan on doing as much as I can on the honeymoon!

Thank you to everyone for the wonderful warm wishes and good thoughts!  I really appreciate it!

I’m not sure if I’ll get another post in between now and the wedding, so if I don’t …. have a great weekend and I’ll see you all in Blog Land next week!
