Manic Monday

Manic Monday #123

What sound or noise do you love?

I love the sounds of the Peepers (frogs) outside at night, when the lights are off and I’m the only one awake, standing on our back porch.

What sound or noise do you hate?

Anytime someone is grinding their teeth, mainly in their sleep.  ARG – it’s like nails on a chalk board!

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I’ve always wanted to be a mortician!  I started out for that, but realized I was really go working with the living, but I still want to give it a shot.

What profession would you NOT like to do?

It Just Keeps Coming

I must be doing something right in the Universe …. I received another SP12 package from my pal on Saturday!

There is a skein of Fleece Artist sock yarn in a beautiful pink/purple color, a cute card with a little charm, the softest cotton fabric I have ever felt in my life (I want to felt a bag just so I can line it with this!), a cute little coaster that you can shape and bend, and some chocolate lip gloss (yummy!)  Thanks so much Secret Pal … I love it!  Sadly, my pal has yet to receive my package … but it’s going to Canada and sometimes the USPS can be really slow!

This weekend has been a ‘be lazy and do nothing’ weekend.  Last week was my long week at work, so Saturday I basically caught up on sleep.  Today, I did the same thing, save for a bit of reading.  When my body tells me to rest and sleep, I obey.  It’s a lesson I’ve learned not the fight.  I have some body aches and a killer headache right now, and I’ve been hacking up some junk all day.  There is something upper respiratory going around at work, so I’m on the sleep a lot/hot tea regiment so I can go back to work tomorrow night.  When ever I have stress in my life, my body shuts down.  I don’t know why …. one time my doctor told me that I have chronic fatigue syndrome as a result of a bad batch of Mono/Epstein Barr that I had in high school (three months worth of Mono – not good.)  So I’ve been taking it extra easy this weekend.

Ah … knitting progress!!!  I actually have photos to share!!

I’m about twelve rows away from joining in the round on Glee.  Looking at it, I’m a bit worried that the sleeve openings are going to be too big, but I’m sure that I can come up with something to fix that if it is the case.  I’ve been taking my time with this, mainly because it’s a lot of knit and purl … over and over and over again.

Next up, I’ve started some Christmas knitting!  Yes, go ahead a say it … SHE’S CRAZY!!!!  This is going to be for my Dad.  It’s The Yarn Harlot’s One Row Scarf … in mmmmMalabrigo!

One row scarf

I really love this pattern, and I’m going to make another one (or maybe two!)  It’s a great simple pattern that brings wonderful results.

In wedding news … the wedding Website is up.  You can check it out HERE.

Only THIRTEEN more days until my Bridal Shower!!!!  I can’t wait to see Emy, Tina, Katie, and Steve!!!  I miss my NY friends so much, so to have them down here – even for the weekend – is making me all a flutter!!!  Emy has been working hard on her knitting too!  She made her man, Matt, a scarf, has learned to purl, and is ready to start on a hat!!!  I’m so proud!!!  Tina is bringing her wheel, and I’m anxious to see what Katie is working on as well.  It’s so hard when most of your close friends live 6 or more hours away (an ocean in Emy’s case), but to have them all together in on spot … I can’t wait!

Okay … I’m going to reserve my energy and lay back down, probably finishing my book tonight too.  Have a great week everyone!

Friday Fill Ins

Friday Fill-In #78

1. Birthdays are meant to be celebrated in the grandest fashion!  Lots of homemade food, cake, friends, and of course … presents!

2. Autumn is my favorite season because I love the cool weather and being able to wear sweaters again!

3. I feel my best when I’ve had at least 10 hours of sleep and can spend the next day relaxing with John and/or knitting.

4. Sushi is my favorite food!

5. First impressions are very important.  Not what you look like, but how you carry yourself and behave.  It’s just something most people never forget.

6. The best piece of advice I ever received was being able to laugh at yourself, no matter what, and especially in the hardest of times.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to reading and relaxing, tomorrow my plans include sleeping in, knitting, and doing a whole lotta nothing and Sunday, I want to sleep in again and maybe get some things done around the house!

I’m making great progress on Glee and a scarf for my Dad, so I am hoping this weekend to have photos of my knitting progress!

SP Question of the Week

Secret Pal Question of the Week # 3

What would you consider the perfect amount of stash?

Really?  You want me to answer that???  LOL

I think that my ideal perfect amount of stash would include sock yarn in various colors – enough to make about 20 or so pairs; at least three skeins of Cascade 220 (regular and heathers) – in each color mind you; various wools to make at least four or five sweaters; and a huge basket full of ‘posh’ yarn – cashmere, really nice alpaca, etc. I’d keep at least 3 skeins of each color of Kathmandu Aran on hand, as well as two of each color of Blue Sky Alpaca and Silk.   And finally, all of my needles would be neatly managed – at least two sets of each size DPNs (up to size 10), one pair of each size straights (up to size 13.  I don’t use them much, but you never know), and every size of Addi Turbo (up to size 13) – in 16 inch, 24 inch, and 32 inch each.

So, that would be my perfect stash, that is, until I change my mind next time. 🙂

Spoiled Again!

This morning I woke up early and decided to take some time for myself.  So, naturally, I went to the yarn store!  Seeing as my two very LYSs are no longer open at the start of the week, I drove about 20 minutes down to Woodstock (not the hippie town, though I’ve been there too) to visit The FiberSmyth.  Her shop has such a wonderful variety, and every time I go I want to spend all of my money.  I was good today, spending under $40.

I picked up two skeins of Malabrigo in a very pretty dark blue and two skeins of Cascade 220 Heather in a light green.  There are a couple of scarves that I want to make for people for this fall/winter.

When I got back home, there was a package sitting on my stoop.  It was from my Summer of Yarn Love swap pal!!!!  OMG – it’s divine!!!!

Summer of Yarn Love Swap

My pal sent me two skeins of Cascade 220 Heathers, in blue and a darker green then what I picked up this morning.  There is also a copy of the Knit and Purl Harmony Guides, awesome sticky notes in various sizes, Sugar Babies, Dove Caramel, some beeswax hand/lip balm, darning needles (I always need these; never can find them when I need them), and sock size point protectors!!!  Thank you so much – I LOVE IT!!!!

For the rest of the day, I think I’m going to read and take a nap (I have to stay up tonight late so I can get back in the sleep rhythm – gotta work tomorrow night.)  I’ve gotta check on Mom’s cats later today since my folks are out of town, cook dinner, and then I’m gonna wind up that Malabrigo and start a new project!

Manic Monday

Manic Monday #122

Are you a talker or a listener? Is it ever possible to really be both?

I think that I’m a good listener, but I’m a good talker too!  I think one of my worst habits is interupting people.  It’s a bad habit that I am trying to break, and just learn to listen more intently.  And yes, I think you can be both.

Do you think God has a sense of humor?

Come on?  Of course God has a sense of humor.  The Duck Billed Platapus, going to high school …. yes, I’m sure that the Divine loves a good joke.

Do you believe in love at first sight? Have you ever experienced it?

I believe in love at first sight.  His name was Nick, and he was one of the most wonderful people that I had the beauty of knowing when I was in junior high/high school.  We were never officially together, but we dated on and off for over five years.  He’s a great guy and I hope he’s happy doing whatever it is his life path has brought him to.  But that was my first and only love at first sight.

OY!!!!  Happy Monday!!!  Well, it is for me, as I worked all weekend.  Last night was good … steady but I did get some downtime.  Unlike Saturday night, which was just utter chaos from the start.  It didn’t help that when I started my shift, I had to clean up after the person who was working before me that day.  I really wish people had more of a solid work ethic, instead of me feeling like they’re five and can’t pick up their toys.  When I woke up Sunday morning every muscle in my body ached as if it was on fire.  Nothing that a can of Coke and three Advil can’t cure though.  I’m still stiff, but happy to be off and away for a couple days.  I plan on getting some knitting done in the next couple of nights, and then hopefully starting something new.  Emy’s birthday present is done, Karen’s is almost finished, and I made about an inch of progress on Glee last night.  But I’m feeling a knitting rut coming on, so I think I need to start something new.

I was having a perticularly bad morning.  My mood, when I woke up, was terrible.  One of those hate the world and everything in it moods.  Work has been very busy lately, and I feel like I’ve had no time to just unwind and have ‘ME’ time.  So I rolled back over and fell back asleep.  When I finally woke up again, still feeling kinda crappy, I went to get the mail and found my first SP12 package waiting in my mailbox!  Spoiler, you don’t know how much it meant to receive that today!  My pal sent me some awesome Japanese stationary!!!  Thank you so much – I love it!!!  (The picture is a little dark – I forgot to turn the kitchen lights on and it’s storming outside.)

Yesterday was pay day, which meant a trip to Borders!  I picked up books #5, 6, and 9 of the Dresden Files (they didn’t have book 7 and I’ve read book 8.)  I just love this series!  I can’t seem to put the books down once I start reading them.

Only 23 more days until my Bridal Shower, which means only 22 more days until Tina, Steve, and Katie are here to visit!!!  I’m so excited !!!  I miss them all so much, especially this time of year.  Not to mention Emy will also be home from England that week, so I get to see everyone!!!

And, as is customary …. Friday Fill-Ins!

Friday Fill-In # 77

1. A smile is always on my face at work when I’m with my patients, no matter what.  No one wants to see a sour mood when they are in the hospital.
2. Gin and/or Rummy is my favorite board or card game.
3. I would love to have more ME time in my life and less feeling that I have to do everything for everyone all of the time.
4. When I think of the Summer Solstice, I think of the time I went to Stonehenge the day before Summer Solstice.
5. I just remembered I need to clean the kitchen at some point.

6. One of my favorite song lyrics goes like this:  Je ne veux pas travailler /Je ne veux pas déjeuner /Je veux seulement l’oublier /Et puis je fume .

Which, in English means, ” I do not want to work, I do not want to eat, I want only to forget … and then I smoke.”  This is from Pink Martini’s song “Sympathique”

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to drinking some wine, knitting, and watching Juno, tomorrow my plans include working and Sunday, I want to take a walk or a light hike, but I have to go to work!
