I have become entranced with the new HBO mini-series, John Adams. I’ve been catching up with it On Demand with cable, and I have to watch every episode at least two or three times, it’s that good. I’ve always been a huge history buff, fueled mainly by my father’s passion for history. But the Revolutionary War, and founding of our country, has always captivated me. I’m lucky to live in a part of the country where places like Williamsburg, Washington DC, and Philadelphia are all in a day’s drive. But this mini-series truly shines when it comes to telling the story of the birth of our nation, and those who helped to shape it. John Adams isn’t a guy you instantly think of … it’s all about Washington, Franklin … those guys are of the iconic kind. But Adams, along with his amazing and intelligent wife Abigail, truly played a huge role to form what we call freedom today. Paul Giamatti (Adams) and Laura Linney (Abigail) are profound in their roles. If you haven’t watched this, I highly recommend it! I haven’t been this moved by a historical film in quite some time. Also, it’s based on David McCullough’s novel – and he helped write the script. Another book to add to my list, along with Founding Mothers : The Women Who Raised Our Nation.
Onto the new house front. John and his Dad finished painting upstairs, and it looks amazing! I ordered black out shades for the two bedrooms today, and got an amazing deal with the sale JC Penny was having. Next I plan to order some other curtains and sheers, but I just haven’t decided what I want for which room. We’re hoping to hear word tomorrow as to when we’ll close (I’m hoping it is this week … it has to be! Why, because I said so!LOL) Because I work Wednesday and Thursday, I have to buy boxes tomorrow but do a majority of the packing on Friday night/Saturday morning, so we can start moving Saturday afternoon/Sunday.
I’m still upset about the whole issue with careless mistakes being made and the laziness that has been displayed from the seller’s side, but I’m much calmer now than I was the last time I posted. The house is perfect and I know it will be ours. I’ve never been one to boast about my patience, but this truly has been a good excercise for me on the subject.
